The Marquette University Telehealth Accelerator invites Marquette faculty and staff to submit proposals for up to $20,000 in seed money for innovative projects that explore, make an impact on, and advance telehealth.
The Marquette University Telehealth Accelerator, supported by a multidisciplinary, cross campus research group and an expert advisory board, is focused on student and professional education, educational development, research and innovation generation, and patient- and professional- centered supports.
The Marquette University Telehealth Accelerator Seed Grant may be used for a wide variety of projects including:
- Creating educational tools such as videos, clinical simulations, and virtual reality experiences to enhance learning new skills in digital health care delivery.
- Collaborate with health care providers to provide best practices of digital health and care delivered at a distance enabled by technology.
- Building community and industry partnerships.
- Developing virtual Cura Personalis, where access and equity to healthcare and wellness of both healthcare professionals and patients are enhanced.
- Other potentially high impact ideas that require seed funds to test concept or build momentum.
Telehealth is defined as digital and/or virtual healthcare. Innovation can include adaptation of existing strategies to support Marquette in new ways as well as development of brand-new ideas. Projects that are interdisciplinary and which have the potential for community partnership or impact are encouraged.
Faculty research ideas that could normally be supported by other mechanisms, such as the Summer Faculty Fellowship, Regular Research, Explorer Challenge, or Way Klingler Research Awards, will typically not be competitive for funding through the Telehealth Accelerator seed grants. Academic program development may be eligible, but the Provost’s Program Incubator may be a more appropriate source for some of these ideas. Students looking to launch entrepreneurial ventures should also explore the resources of the 707 Hub for other funding and support opportunities.
Proposals should use faculty stipends rather than buy-outs and should not include supplemental undergraduate financial aid. The grant period is from July 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024..

Criteria
The following are generally expected funding guidelines for the Marquette University Telehealth Accelerator Seed Grants.
- Explain how your project will explore, make an impact on, and advance telehealth.
- Explain how your project will develop virtual Cura Personalis, where access and equity to healthcare and wellness of both healthcare professionals and patients are enhanced
- Describe how your project is innovative. Innovation can include adaptation of existing strategies to advance telehealth as well as development of novel telehealth practices
- Clearly define the problem or opportunity being addressed
- Clearly define/describe the strategies or plans for the project. Provide a set of realistic goals that can be achieved within a defined time period.
- Represent a cross-campus collaborative effort, or an external partner as appropriate to the project.
- Have the potential to become financially sustainable if the project is expected to continue beyond the funding period.
- Demonstrate the impact of the project on Marquette and the broader community, as appropriate.
