Janine P. Geske, Distinguished Professor of Law and Director of the Andrew Center for Restorative Justice, will hold a conversation with Mary Kay Balchunas, Ph.D., a mother whose son, a police officer, was killed in 2004 during an attempted armed robbery. Dr. Balchunas will share her experience of restorative justice and how it has helped her heal. Professor Geske will also discuss the basic concepts of victim-centered restorative justice.

Marquette University Law School established the Restorative Justice Initiative in 2004 under the leadership of Janine P. Geske, former justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in order to help support victims and communities in the process of healing from the effects of crime. In December 2021, Marquette University established the Andrew Center for Restorative Justice, recognizing the generous interest of Louis J. Andrew, Jr., and Suzanne Bouquet Andrew in helping the Law School build on the work of Professor Geske.
